Kindex is a local-first tool. Your data stays on your machine. We do not collect it, transmit it, or have access to it. This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics.

What Kindex is

Kindex is an open-source, local-first knowledge graph that runs entirely on your computer. It stores data in a SQLite database in your home directory, or in a project-local .kin/ directory you choose to track in git. It operates as a command-line tool and an MCP server. There is no cloud service, no account system, and no server infrastructure.

Data we collect

None. Kindex does not collect, transmit, store, or process any user data on external servers. All data remains on your filesystem under your control.

Data you create

Using Kindex creates a local knowledge graph of nodes, edges, tags, tasks, reminders, and session metadata. It is stored in:

• A SQLite database under ~/.kindex/, or a project-local .kin/ directory.
• Owner-private migration snapshots under ~/.local/state/kindex/ when a schema upgrade runs.
• Export files you explicitly create.

This data never leaves your machine unless you copy, commit, share, or publish it yourself. A tracked .kin/ directory is shared with whoever can read the repository; the .kin/local/ directory is gitignored and stays yours.

Third-party services

Kindex does not communicate with any third-party service for its core operation. It does not phone home, check for updates, or send telemetry.

If you configure an optional provider, such as an Anthropic key for kin learn and kin ask or an embedding provider for vector search, those calls are made with your own key and are governed by that provider's terms. Kindex does not intermediate, log, or cache them.

MCP host context

When Kindex runs as an MCP server, tool responses are returned to the host agent session. That content is processed by the host's provider, such as Anthropic for Claude Code, OpenAI for Codex, or Google for Gemini CLI and Antigravity, under that provider's privacy policy. Kindex has no visibility into, or control over, what happens after a tool response is returned to the host.

This website

kindex.tools, and its mirror at wandercom.github.io/kindex, use no cookies, analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party scripts. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives the request for the font files. The site is served as a static Fly.io app; the mirror is served by GitHub Pages.

Retention and deletion

All data is local. Delete ~/.kindex/, any .kin/ directories, and the snapshot directory, and everything is gone. There is nothing to request from us because we hold nothing.

Children

Kindex does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If Kindex ever adds a cloud feature or any data collection, this page will change before that feature ships. Local-first is an architectural principle, not an accident.
